Convert PDF to Word Online

Last updated:

Drop in a PDF and get back an editable Word (.docx) file with the extracted text content, one paragraph per line and a page break between each PDF page. This tool extracts text — it does not attempt to reproduce the original PDF's exact visual layout, fonts, columns or embedded images, so it works best for text-heavy documents you want to edit as plain content rather than for reports where the original formatting matters. Everything runs locally in your browser; the PDF is never uploaded.

Note: this tool extracts text content and generates a new Word document — it doesn't reproduce the original PDF's exact layout, fonts or images. Useful when you need to edit the text, not when you need to preserve the original formatting.

What Is This Tool?

This tool reads the text layer of a PDF (the actual selectable, copyable text embedded in the file — not an image) and rebuilds it as a new Word document, with each detected line becoming a paragraph and a page break inserted between each original PDF page. It's useful when you have a text-based PDF — a report, an article, an exported document — and need to copy, edit or repurpose the words without retyping everything.

This is honestly a text extraction tool, not a layout-preserving converter: it won't recreate multi-column layouts, tables, headers/footers, specific fonts, or embedded images exactly as they appeared in the PDF. If your PDF is a scanned image (a photo or scan with no underlying text layer), this tool won't find any text to extract — you'd need an OCR tool first to recognize the text from the image.

Why Use It?

  • Turns a static PDF's text into an editable Word document in seconds, without retyping.
  • Works entirely offline in your browser — the PDF file is never uploaded to any server.
  • Free, no signup, no page limit beyond what your browser can handle.
  • Honest about its limits: it extracts text rather than pretending to perfectly recreate the original layout.

How to Use

  1. Click the box or drag a PDF file onto it.
  2. Wait while the text is extracted and the Word document is generated.
  3. Click the download button to save the .docx file.

Example

Input

report.pdf — a 3-page text document

Output

report.docx — an editable Word file with the extracted text, page breaks preserved between the original 3 pages

Each line of text becomes a paragraph in the Word document; the original visual layout, fonts and any embedded images are not reproduced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this preserve the exact formatting of my PDF?

No, not exactly. This tool extracts text content and rebuilds it as plain paragraphs in a new Word document, with page breaks between original pages. It does not recreate multi-column layouts, tables, specific fonts, headers/footers, or embedded images. If you need pixel-perfect layout preservation, this isn't the right tool — it's built for extracting and editing text content.

Why does it say no text was found in my PDF?

This happens when your PDF is a scanned image — essentially a photo of a page with no underlying selectable text layer, just pixels. This tool reads existing text data embedded in the PDF; it doesn't perform OCR (optical character recognition) to read text from an image. You'd need an OCR tool to convert the scanned image to text first.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The entire conversion — reading the PDF and generating the Word file — happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your file never leaves your device, which makes this safe to use with private or sensitive documents.

What file format is downloaded?

A standard .docx file, compatible with Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer and other word processors that support the Office Open XML format.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

No, not currently — this tool doesn't handle encrypted or password-protected PDFs. You'd need to remove the password protection first using a PDF editor before converting.
