What Is This Tool?
This tool pairs a first-name word bank (God: Thalorin, Vexus, Aurelion, Kronoth; Goddess: Seraphina, Auralei, Nyxandra, Solveia) with an optional domain word bank (of the Sun, of Storms, of the Underworld, of the Harvest) to generate full deity names.
Switch between God and Goddess using the gender selector, which draws first names from a dedicated bank tuned for each.
Most generated names include a domain of power, giving your deity both a name and a sphere of influence in one click.
Why Use It?
- You're building a homebrew D&D pantheon and need six or seven deities named before your first session, each with a clear domain so players immediately know who to pray to for what.
- You're writing a fantasy novel and need a throwaway god your characters swear by mid-sentence ("by Thalorin's light") without derailing your outline to invent a whole religion for a one-line reference.
- You want a god and goddess pair that feel like they belong to the same mythology — generating both genders back to back keeps the naming convention consistent across your pantheon instead of one deity sounding out of place.
- You're designing a video game's lore document and need placeholder deity names with domains attached, so the worldbuilding doc reads as a real pantheon instead of a list of "God #1, God #2."
- You want a name and a domain in the exact same click instead of picking a name first and then separately brainstorming what that god is god of — the paired output does both jobs at once.
- 100% local: names are generated entirely in your browser, with nothing sent to a server.
How to Use
- Choose God or Goddess from the gender selector.
- Click "Generate" to produce eight deity name suggestions.
- Click "Copy" next to any name you like to copy it to your clipboard.
- Click "Generate" again for a fresh batch of eight if none of them fit yet.

Building a coherent pantheon, not just a list of names
A believable pantheon needs more than good individual names — it needs domains that don't overlap awkwardly and a spread that covers the things a culture would actually pray about: the sky and sun, war and death, harvest and hearth, love and fate. Real-world mythologies rarely leave major domains uncovered, since deities tend to emerge to explain whatever mattered most to the people worshipping them.
A practical approach: generate two or three batches of each gender, lay all the name-plus-domain pairs out together, and pick a spread rather than the first eight you see — one deity each for the sun/sky, war, death/underworld, harvest/nature, and love/fate covers most of what a functioning pantheon needs, and you can always generate more once you notice a gap (no god of the sea, no goddess of wisdom, and so on).
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these names based on real mythology?
No — the names are randomly generated, invented words designed to sound divine and ancient. They aren't drawn from any real-world religion or mythology, and any resemblance to an existing deity's name is coincidental.
Can I generate a goddess name instead of a god name?
Yes — switch the gender selector to Goddess, which draws first names from a separate word bank of divine-sounding female names.
Will I get the same name twice?
Each batch of eight is generated to avoid duplicates within that batch, but different batches can occasionally repeat a name since the word banks are limited in size.
Does this generator save or track the names I copy?
No. Name generation and copying both happen entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to or stored on a server.
Can I use these names for a published story or game?
Yes, the generated names are free to use in your own creative work. They aren't checked against existing trademarks, so if you're publishing commercially it's worth a quick search on any name you land on.
Can I change the domain a generated god is assigned, like swapping "of the Sun" for "of the Sea"?
Yes — the name and domain aren't permanently fused, so nothing stops you from keeping a first name you like (say, Thalorin) and manually pairing it with a different domain from the word bank shown in the table below, like "of the Sea" instead of "of the Sun."
Can I generate a full pantheon at once, with multiple gods and goddesses?
Each click generates eight names of one gender at a time, but nothing stops you from generating a God batch and a Goddess batch back to back and combining names from both into a single pantheon — that's the most common way people use this tool for worldbuilding.
Do any two domains ever overlap or contradict each other, like two different gods both "of War"?
It's possible across separate generations, since the domain word bank is shared between genders and drawn independently each time — you might get a God "of War" and later a Goddess "of War" too. Many real-world mythologies actually have this same overlap (multiple war deities coexisting), so it's not necessarily something to avoid — but if you want a clean one-god-per-domain pantheon, just skip a duplicate domain when it comes up and generate again.
What if I want a deity with no domain at all, just a divine-sounding name?
Some generated results are already a standalone first name with no domain attached, since not every result in a batch includes one. If you specifically want a bare name, generate a batch and pick one of those; if none show up, generate again since the mix of domain vs. no-domain names varies each time.
