Encoding, escaping and hashing are the plumbing of software — and the fastest source of subtle bugs when done wrong. These tools handle the three tasks that come up daily: Base64 (data in text form), URL encoding (data in links), and hashes (fingerprints of data). All of them treat text as UTF-8, so Chinese, emoji and special characters survive intact — which is exactly where naive tools break.
